Every day, Direct Support Professionals (DSP) support people with developmental disabilities to be healthy, build independence, and lead the lives they choose. DSPs’ exceptional talent, skill, and commitment to their work were celebrated across AHRC Nassau during DSP Recognition Week, Sept. 13-19.
For DSP Recognition Week, the AHRC community came together to share the meaningful impact DSPs made in their lives, those of their loved ones, and the community – with heartfelt tributes through:
- The DSP Recognition Book from people supported, families, staff members, and friends.
- An appreciation video from the leadership team across our family of organizations.
- DSP Profiles and moments of celebration on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Highlighting DSPs for their talent, compassion, and exemplary work, agency leaders visited support teams across the agency to personally thank them for all they do every day and share gift bags as another way to show their appreciation. The celebration continued on September 23, when the agency came together for the DSP of the Year Luncheon. Twenty-three DSPs from Day and Residential Services were honored after being nominated by fellow staff for going above and beyond in supporting people.
“It’s a privilege for me to be here to celebrate our Direct Support Professionals and to recognize our DSPs of the year,” Stanfort Perry, CEO, said. “Today is an opportunity for us to pause, to reflect, and to say thank you to the people whose work goes to the heart of our mission. To every DSP here today, thank you. Thank you for the care you provide, the relationships you build, the dignity you protect, and the opportunities you help create each and every day.”
Each DSP of the Year honoree was presented with an award and certificate recognizing their commitment to providing excellent care.
While DSP Recognition Week presents a unique opportunity to celebrate the direct care workforce, appreciation continues throughout the year. If a staff member has made a difference in your life or in the life of your loved one, share your story at inspire@ahrc.org. Thank you to our DSPs for all you do, every day!
