Freeport nurses celebrate National Nurses WeekAmong the outstanding professionals who ensure the safety and well-being of the people we support are the nearly 100 nurses in our community. National Nurses Week presented an opportunity to celebrate team members and show our support for what they do every day.

With talent and compassion, nurses make community life possible at AHRC Nassau. Whether it’s for a large-scale event like the Day Services picnic or assisting patients returning home from a hospital stay, the presence of a nurse is necessary and welcome. They ensure people’s medical needs are met, while keeping interactions safe. They also partner with direct care staff and advocate to support positive outcomes.

Nurses Kategia AliTo celebrate National Nurses Week, the agency organized a celebratory breakfast honoring the entire nursing team on May 8. Nurses received gifts in recognition for their commitment to high-quality care. The agency celebration was especially memorable for Kategia Ali, RN, who retired this May. For nearly 16 years, Kategia was a part of the tight-knit group of nurses who faithfully oversee care for the hundreds of people at the Freeport location every day.

Kategia recalled her years of service and enjoyed a farewell party with people supported, friends, and colleagues.

“I think the most important thing is compassion and empathy,” Kategia said of what makes one successful in this role. “Putting yourself in the position of all the people you take care of.” Kategia loved every minute of working at Freeport and led with care for nearly 16 years.

We are grateful to all the nurses in our community. Their professionalism, care, and compassion contribute to the high standard of care we want every person we support to receive.
